At the bottom of this page, you'll see a few cactus flowers on the local native vegetation.  The larger cacti are blooming now; this week you'll see one of the more ostentatious blossoms, on the plant in my backyard that produces the red fruit shown on the December page.  This flower only opens at night, but I was up early one day, and saw that the flowers were only just starting to close.

The desert in bloom.  This year Arizona is in a draught, but the cacti are blooming anyway.
